Google :)

Hello. How're u? I'm good but there are plenty to do since it's soon-to-be the ending of the semester. Time flies really fast during short semester. Amy Winehouse became the topic of my previous blog. I still think that her death is quite sad.

Ok. So, back to Google. Why Google? It's actually my favourite site of all. It falls under the category of online site. I think that it's a very good site for an online service provider website. Whenever I have any doubts or there's something that I want to find out more about, I always rely on Google. It has become a very important figure in my life. :) Google Search is a web search engine that has become the dominant search engine in the United States market with a market share of 65.6%. Google indexes billions of web pages so that users can search for the information they desire through the use of keywords and operators.

Google Search

Google was founded in January 1996 by Larry Page and Sergey Brin who are often dubbed the 'Google Guys'. Google's mission statement was to organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful.

Google's HQ in Mountain View, California, US

The company offers online productivity software such as its Gmail email service and social networking tools including Orkut and the most recent, Google Buzz and Google +. Besides, Google's products extend to the desktop as well with applications such as web browse Google Chrome, The Picasa photo organization and editing software and the Google Talk instant messaging application.

Google Chrome, Gmail & Picasa

Notably, Google also leads to the development of the Android mobile operating system that are used on a number of phones such as the Nexus One and Motorola Droid as well as Google Chrome OS which was released on June 15, 2011. Google also own sites such as YouTube, Blogger and Orkut. Now after knowing more about Google, don't you think that Google is a one hell of a software? It practically owns most of the inventions or software that other companies also have. With Google, information is just a click-away.

That's all for today.

Cheers!

RIP Amy Winehouse

Amy Winehouse dead?! Seriously or rumour? I asked my sister when she told me about it just now. This is quite sad. Sigh! Real tragic happened in just couple of days. First, the Oslo attacks and now this. RIP Amy :( She was found dead in her London home and it's believed that her death was due to a suspected drug overdose. In just 27 years, Amy Winehouse has managed to leave behind her a soul legacy, with a band of modern British female soul songers - Adele, Duffy, Jessie J - celebrating success across the world borne almost entirely in her wake.

Sadly, the immeasurably gifted singer is unlikely to be remembered for her talents, instead often drowned by drinking and tranquillized by drug abuse that soon took over her career. However, it almost seems unsurprising that, Amy Winehouse joins many of her heroes such as Elvis Presley, Jim Morrison, Kurt Cobain and Bob Marley - all whom died at aged just 27. Winehouse's rise was helped by her distinctive look which was her black beehive of hair, thickly lined cat eyes and girly tattoos.

Amy Winehouse had a hugely successful musical career with the release of her debut album, Frank in 2003 and the record that considered as her breakthrough album - Back to Black in 2006. During her career, she won awards including 5 Grammy Awards including song and record of the year for Rehab, a World Music Award in 2008 for World's Best Selling Pop/Rock Female Artist. The singer was featured on the Sunday Times Rich List earlier this year with an estimated net worth of around £6million.

It was an unexpected incident that occured because I just heard about her last month. In June 2011, Amy Winehouse canceled her European tour after she was booed off stage in her first show in Serbian because of her barely recognizable songs. And now, she's gone. Gone forever. :( She was last publicly seen on at a London concert on Wednesday, 20th July 2011 when she joined her goddaughter, Dionne Bromfield on stage. In that impromptu, Winehouse danced with Bromfield and even encouraged the audience to buy her new album before leaving the stage.

Let's have a review of Amy Winehouse's life (14 September 1983 – 23 July 2011).

Memorable: the singer is unlikely to be forgotten for a long time - for her music as mush as for her troubles

Lastly, an all-time favourite song of mine from Amy Winehouse, Rehab. Do enjoy! :)

Probably rehab was a much safer place. May you rest in peace, Amy Winehouse.

Video Clips with CGI

Do you know what CGI is? It stands for 'computer-generated imagery', in short 'CGI'. I have not heard about it before. But maybe some of you out there already do know what CGI is. So, let's start with some basic information about CGI.

Computer-generated imagery (CGI) is the application of the field of computer graphics (or more specifically known as 3D computer graphics) to special effects. It is animated graphics produced by computer and are used in films, television programs and commercials and also it is widely used in music videos nowadays. CGI is used for visual effects because the quality is often higher and effects are more controllable than other more physically based processes such as constructing miniatures for effects shots or hiring extras for crowd scenes. It is also because it allows the creation of images that would not be feasible using any other technology.

It can also allow single artist to produce content without the use of actors, expensive set pieces or props. Recent accessibility of CGI software and the increased of computer speed has allowed individual artists and small companies to produce professional grade films, games, and fine art from their home computers. Besides, video games most often use real-time computer graphics (rarely referred to as CGI) but may also include pre-rendered 'cut scenes' and intro movies that would be typical CGI applications.

Below are some examples of video clips that utilize CGI. Do enjoy! :)

Ellie Goulding - Lights

Justin Timberlake - Lovestoned / I Think She Knows Interlude

Oh. So, that's called computer-generated imagery. They are known as digital effects to me all these while. Now, I have a clearer idea of what CGI is.

Thats all for now. Thanks for reading. Bye!

FlyFM LOL Uni Talk

Was about to start off with the first sentence and there came an insect flew by and landed on my computer screen. My first reaction was to try scare it away with the cursor. LOL! Back to the topic, I attended a LOL Uni Talk on the 7th July that was brought to us, SEGi UC students by the FlyFM troopers. Btw, 'LOL' here doesn't mean 'Laugh Out Loud' but 'Live Out Loud'. Coincidence, FlyFM is always my favourite radio stations to tune into. I listens to them all this while especially when I'm driving around. This talk was a benefit to Mass Comm students as it provides us a lot of information about this field.

LOL Uni Talk

Great speakers like Nazrudin Rahman (better known as Naz), Jaclyn Victor, Harith Iskandar, FlyFM DJs (Prem Shanker & Hunny Madu) and many more were among the guests who attended. The talk was hosted by Zher who is also one of the FlyFM's DJ. The first session was 'Living in the Limelight' featuring Naz and Jaclyn Victor. Naz is an actor, producer and a TV host where he is well-known for NTV7 The Breakfast Show and Sejuta Impian. While on the other hand, Jaclyn Victor is the first Malaysian Idol winner where her career landed her as Malaysia's Pop Diva and also a promising actress.

Naz & Jaclyn Victor

Both speakers spoke up about how they had cope with their lives in front and behind the camera and how they improved themselves to be better everytime. They also told about their ups and downs during the years throughout their life in the limelight. Their great advice to us was never to expect the starting years to be highly-paid and work our ass off to achieve what we want for better years ahead. Also, never to expect everything to turn out beautifully for us once we enter the industry. Being in front of the camera like Naz and Jaclyn Victor must be nerve-wracking especially when it is in front of like 4million audiences. Oh gosh!

After 'Living in the Limelight' session, it was the 'World of Radio' session featuring Prem Shanker (better known as Prem), Hunny Madu, Fara Aida and Vickneswaran (or Vick). Both Prem and Hunny Madu are FlyFM announcers and TV host for the 8TV Quickie. Besides, Prem is a busy man who also spins in a club every Saturday (under the moniker Premosupremo) and he tried his hand on acting in a TV series, Crossings on NTV7 that is yet to be air. While, Hunny Madu is an actress and singer who had recently released her first debut album, Pulau Janji. p/s: I never really like her when I first heard about her on air but in the recent years, I realized that she is actually someone who is always trying out new things and she is becoming better everytime I hears her on air. Btw, she really fluent with her lines during airtime.

Prem & Hunny Madu

Both speakers spoke about their lives revolving in the radio world. Actually to be honest, I was kind of impressed when they actually told that they speak on air without any scripts. Whereas, they also must be able react spontaneously and have add-ons for instance, if a recent event just happened somewhere or if people already knew about the event and how they do cover-ups to make sure the audiences tune into their channels. As we all know, it is all about the ratings. :) If the ratings are high, they stay or vice versa.

As for Fara Aida, the Head of Brand Communication in Media Prima Radio Network manages advertising and promotional campaigns as well as creating what are beneficial to their radio stations (Fly FM, Hot FM and One FM). She also oversees the media and relations and publicity for all 3 stations. Meanwhile, Vick is the Assistant Manager of Sales in Media Prima  Radio Network. He leads the team of 12 in direct sales where he looks out for new businesses and collaborates with the 3 stations. Both of their jobs liaise closely to each other where one will find the new opportunity of business for the 3 stations and the other will manage the ads and promotional campaigns for the new business. They shared about how their day starts off with and how they manage their work. They also provided us with information if we are interested in the field. *Sorry, no images available for both of them*

Followed by, a talk of inspiring stories from a well-known icon, Harith Iskandar. He is famously known as Malaysia's premier stand-up comedian performing live at countless events and had entertained and will continue to entertain thousands of Malaysians and foreigners with his unique and original materials. Apart from being a comedian, he is also an award winning film director, actor, writer and entrepreneur.

Cute isn't he? Most amazing was his CSI joke. LMAO!

I would consider his talk as 50:50 because his talk was partially jokes that made the whole auditorium roars. Everyone was having a blast and we're all LOL! He spoke up on how he started off in the industry where he was an Assistant Producer in Leo Burnett and how he landed being so successful today. He told us that to be successful in being a comedian, we must firstly make a joke out of ourselves and when others laughed at us, then we can make a joke out of them. How smart! There's a student who stood up and asked Harith Iskandar a question, 'What is your vision that you want to achieve?' His answer: he was Malay but born to a Malay father and an English mother. So, when he was young, there is once where he needs to fill up a form and tick his race, his friends told him to tick 'others' whereas he was actually Malay. Therefore, his vision is to be able to change the race column to only one race, 'Malaysian' instead of separating them into Malay, Chinese, Indian and others. Thumbs up, Harith Iskandar! I totally agreed with him because why is there a need to differentiate one another when we are all counted as 1Malaysia. How about you? What do you think?

The talk ended with a lucky draw and cool prizes are won. Although, I didn't get any but these great speakers did filled my day with lots of information about the do's and don'ts, what is happening in the entertainment and media industry and how to get a step closer to the industry. Most importantly, practice makes perfect and always be you. We also can try a hand in the industry by submitting our resume to http://lol.flyfm.com.my/ for an internship or career opportunity. You can also give it a try. :) Overall, the speakers were simply amazing and not forgetting Zher did a great job in hosting the event. AWESOME! ♥ Good day!

Zher

Quotes of the Day

Song of the day: Boston by Augustana. Been hearing to it while blogging. Enjoy!

Another really long post. But for now, am dozing off to sleep. Bye!

First blog of 2011?

Hello. I'm Stephanie Lai. Good morning! Blogging my very first post in the A.M. as I'm awake after 6 hours of sleep from taking my meds. Wasn't in a tip top condition for these past days :( *cough cough* Currently studying in the field of Mass Communication, majoring in Public Relations. Me loves my family. friends. purple. chocolates. sleeping. movie. chillax-ing with my 'kakis'. holidays. music. and food. Lovin' these to bits!

Well, just started a new semester and was assigned with a blogging task. This can be considered as my second attempt in blogging as my very first hand on blogging was also related to an assignment back then last year. But the thing is I couldn't remember a thing bout blogging except in writing a new post everytime -.-

I need this badly! :(

I never blog but I kinda enjoy reading people's blog though. Was never a long-winded-story-telling-kind-of-person but a lazy and laid-back me. :) However, in this very first post, I will write up more.

Alright, moving on was about the very first class of Media Tech. & Practices with Ms. Nabila. Never knew bout her, so i was looking forward to have the my very first class with her. But I was late on that day. Sorry Miss! She has a kinda 'husky' voice which was rather sexy, looks tan and young. Looking just like any girl-next-door and I wouldn't realize she is a lecturer if she walked passed me. I was kind of surprised when I entered the class hearing a classmate telling about when was her first crush. First thought, did i entered the wrong class or is Media Tech. so lovey-dovey? So my question was what was the characteristics about my ideal partner. Hmmm. My answer: definitely taller than me, good-looking, humorous, smart and playful. A person having both a serious and cheeky side would be a perfect one. *Maybe at least to me :)*

:)

After that was each of us taking out a coin and 3 lucky person were picked to tell a most memorable event happened in the year stated on the coin. VJ's was the most memorable to me where he was jealous of his sister when she got more attention from their parents. He then took 'revenge' by rubbing her eyes with onions. *Ouch* Who would have thought of a 5-year old kid doing such thing? Haha! Then, Miss also shared her interesting stories of her crushes at every primary standards, first love, how she got dumped and so on. It was really informational. Haha!

Class began to be serious after the ice-breaking session. It was rather a kind of introduction of the Internet & social media and how certain media works. Videos are shown as well to have a better understanding which I personally think its better than just having plain talks and with additional explanations and examples, its what we needed most. We were encouraged to ask questions if there were any point that we missed or in any part that we least understand. Open discussions is useful where we had our brains starting to move and exchange of information between one another. Besides, we were also given a weekly task to search for an article of a given topic and we are required to study and speak out our thoughts about it. Overall, the first class was fun yet informational and all of us did listen in class.

p/s: Was in the Tuesday class on the first class but now I'm in the Monday class for permanent. Don't be mistaken! :)

That's all for now. Ciao!
